The Brooklyn Nets compete in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Nets are again championship contenders led by former NBA MVP’s Kevin Durant and James Harden, both of whom were recently named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
The franchise was established in 1967 as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA), winning two ABA championships before joining the NBA in 1976 as part of the NBA-ABA merger. The team’s greatest success in the NBA came during back-to-back Eastern Conference championships in 2002 and 2003 as the New Jersey Nets.
The Nets have moved back and forth between New Jersey and Long Island, New York multiple times in team history, most recently relocating in 2012 to the team’s current home at Barclays Center in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.
