The Georgia Bulldogs own the longest current streak of consecutive bowl appearances, and will look to extend that string to a full quarter century in 2021-22.
UGA qualified for the Outback Bowl in 1997 under head coach Jim Donnan, and the ‘Dawgs haven’t looked back since. From Donnan to Mark Richt to current coach Kirby Smart, Georgia has been a perennial postseason contender.
Can the 2021 team win it all, though? Georgia hasn’t captured a national championship since the Herschel Walker days (1980), although Smart’s 2017 team came oh-so-close, taking Alabama to overtime in the title game before dropping a 26-23 heartbreaker.
Bulldog fans will get a good idea where their team stands among the nation’s elite with a Week 1 showdown against powerhouse Clemson in Charlotte, North Carolina. Georgia’s home opener comes the next week, as UAB visits Sanford Stadium September 11. Week 3 marks the start of the Dawgs’ conference schedule, namely a home game against South Carolina.
The regular season ends with a traditional non-league rivalry game against Georgia Tech (November 27 in Atlanta), but of course, Georgia hopes and plans to play at least one time in the state this year: the SEC Championship Game will be held in Atlanta December 4.
