Additional Indianapolis Colts Info

The Indianapolis Colts’ leading passer in 2018 was Andrew Luck (now retired).

The Indianapolis Colts’ leading passer in 2019 was Jacoby Brissett (now with Miami).

The Indianapolis Colts’ leading passer in 2020 was Philip Rivers (now retired).

The Indianapolis Colts’ leading passer in 2021 will be….?

That’s the biggest question facing head coach Frank Reich in his fourth season on the sidelines in Indy. The most likely answer is newcomer Carson Wentz. Wentz went 11-2 as the starter for the eventual Super Bowl champion Eagles in 2017 before suffering a season-ending injury, and hopes to rediscover that offensive magic in a reunion with Reich (who was his offensive coordinator in Philadelphia that year).

If Wentz isn’t ready for the opener after undergoing foot surgery in August, the Colts’ options at QB appear to be limited. The next two signal-callers on the depth chart (2020 fourth-round pick Jacob Eason and 2021 sixth-round pick Sam Ehlinger) have attempted exactly as many passes in the NFL regular season as you or I have: zero.

The Colts won 11 games in 2020 en route to an AFC wild card berth before dropping a 27-24 heartbreaker at Buffalo in their postseason opener. Indianapolis returns a league-high four first-team All-Pros from last year, which bodes well for the team’s chances to get back to the playoffs and perhaps earn the franchise’s first AFC South title since 2014. A top-10 defense, led by DeForest Buckner and Darius Leonard, should feature an improved pass rush after the Colts took DEs Kwity Paye and Dayo Odeyingbo with their first two draft picks in April.

Indianapolis will open the 2021 season with home games against a pair of playoff teams from the NFC West. The Seahawks come to Lucas Oil Stadium on September 12, with the Rams to follow in Week 2. Next up, it’s a crucial three-game road trip for the Colts, with visits to Tennessee, Miami, and Baltimore on tap.

Other notable dates on the 17-game schedule include a Thursday Night Football tilt with the Jets on November 4, a Christmas Day clash with the Cardinals in the desert, and a visit from the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers in Week 12. The Colts also get a playoff rematch at Buffalo on November 21, with a chance to earn some revenge and put the rest of the league on notice.
